For quicker commutes, Noida Metro’s Aqua Line will connect to Delhi Metro’s Blue Line

A detailed project report (DPR) for extending the network to the Noida Extension, which includes an interchange station on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, was authorized by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) on Monday.

Despite housing thousands of people, Noida Extension, often referred to as Greater Noida West, lacks government-funded public transportation. Over the years, citizens have repeatedly shown their support for bus service and metro rail connections in the area.

Before the NMRC Board for approval, the DPR for the extension of the Aqua Line corridor from Noida Sector-51 station to Knowledge Park V (Greater Noida) was submitted. The proposal, according to NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M, was for 11 stations along a 17.43-kilometer circuit at a cost of Rs 2991.60 crore.

According to Lokesh, “the project’s significance stems from the proposed interconnection of the DMRC’s Blue line at Sector-61 station with the operational Aqua Line, which will benefit the commuters of Noida, Greater Noida West area, and Greater Noida area with faster and direct connectivity towards Noida and Delhi and vice versa.”

“Today, the NMRC Board authorized the DPR for this project. The senior IAS official, who is also the CEO of Noida Authority, said that the DPR would now be processed for clearance by the governments of Uttar Pradesh and India.

According to the official, the Noida Sector-61 station would act as an interchange between the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Blue Line and the NMRC’s Aqua Line.

According to the NMRC, the planned corridor would have stations at Greater Noida Knowledge Park-V, Noida Sector-61, 70, 122, and 123, Ecotech 4, Greater Noida Sector 2, 3, 10, and 12.

Vikas Marg and the Noida-Greater Noida Link Road would be useful to commuters from Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida. According to Lokesh, it would also contribute in reducing traffic on the roads along these routes.

According to him, the project would link passengers to the DMRC’s Blue Line and the NMRC’s operating Aqua Line.

Plans are also underway to expand the Noida Metro system to include two more routes. Officials said that one of them is an expansion from NMCR’s Depot Station to Bodaki in Greater Noida, while the other is a corridor connecting the Botanical Garden Metro Station and the Noida Sector-142 station.

The NMRC said that the Botanical Garden-Sector 142 corridor DPR has been submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government and that, upon acceptance, it would be sent to the Center for clearance.
