Four Fishermen Injured in Two More Boat Accidents in Kerala’s Muthalapozhi Area in the Past Two Days

Four fisherman were injured in two separate boat accidents in the last few days, only two weeks after a central team of specialists visited Muthalapozhi in response to regular boat accidents in the region.

While the most recent incident was reported on Monday when two fisherman were hurt while traveling in their boat in the region where the sea meets a river and a lake, authorities claimed a related event happened two days before in the same location.

Two fisherman were hurt in the prior incident as well, according to authorities.

They said, “The four fishermen are all good now.”

Following a boat tragedy on July 10 that lost four lives, a central team of specialists headed by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan had visited the region on July 17.

The Kerala Ministers Saji Cherian, G. R. Anil, V. Sivankutty, and Antony Raju had a ministerial-level meeting on the same day that the central team was in the region to discuss the same matter.

The coastal population has argued that the location is hazardous for their boats for a while.

Following a ministerial-level meeting, the state administration announced a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the likelihood of boating mishaps in the region and providing support for the four fishermen who lost their lives.

A political dispute over the boat tragedy in Muthalapozhi, which lost four lives, had broken out in the state before the central team’s arrival and the ministerial-level meeting, with the ruling CPI(M) and the opposition Congress accusing one another of attempting to incite unrest in the coastal region.

Four fisherman lost their life in the tragedy, which was the tenth such incidence in the region this year alone, according to Father Eugene Pereira, the Vicar General of the Latin Archdiocese.
