Gautam Adani, CEO of the Adani Group, calls Bangladesh’s prime minister in Dhaka

Gautam Adani, the head of the Adani Group, met with Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh on Saturday in Dhaka.

His visit comes after the Group’s ultra-supercritical thermal power plant (USCTPP) in Godda, Jharkhand, started supplying electricity to the neighboring country, the Adani Group said in a statement on Saturday.

On April 10, 2023, Adani Power Ltd. (APL) began exporting electricity to Bangladesh from its 1,600 MW power facility.

In a statement released today, the Adani Group stated that “following the full load commencement of power supply to Bangladesh from the Group’s Ultra Super-Critical Thermal Power Plant in Godda, India,” Chairman Gautam Adani “called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Saturday.”

The Adani Group’s foray into international power projects is marked by the Godda USCTPP. According to the statement, it is the first transnational power project in India to be completed where 100% of the electricity produced is delivered to another country.

“It was an honor to meet Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, during the handover of the 1600 MW Ultra Super-Critical Godda Power Plant and the start of full load. After visiting the Bangladesh Prime Minister, Adani tweeted, “I applaud the devoted personnel from India and Bangladesh that faced COVID to commission the plant in a record speed of three and a half years.

Godda’s energy will take the place of expensive power produced in Bangladesh utilizing liquid fuel. The statement said that the electricity would be constantly provided at a competitive rate.

Under a power purchase agreement (PPA) agreed with the Bangladesh Power Development Board for 25 years, the Godda plant would provide 1,496 MW through a 400 kV dedicated transmission infrastructure linked to the Bangladesh grid. In November 2017, the PPA was put into effect.

On April 6, the Godda facility in Jharkhand’s first unit of 800 MW capacity started commercial operations. On June 26, the second unit, which has a capacity of 800 MW, was added.

The biggest privately owned thermal power producer in India is Adani Power Limited (APL), which is a member of the diversified Adani Group.

In addition to a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, the business has built thermal capacity of 15,210 MW throughout Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
