Greek President awards Grand Cross of the Order of Honor to PM Narendra Modi

Greek President Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour in Athens. He traveled to Greece on Friday at the request of his colleague, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for a daylong stay.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that PM Modi’s “decisive contribution to the strategic promotion of Greek-Indian friendship in areas of mutual interest has also been recognized.” The President of Greece awards Prime Ministers and notable individuals who, as a result of their illustrious positions, have contributed to raising the prestige of Greece with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour.

“I thank President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Government and people of Greece for bestowing upon me The Grand Cross of the Order of Honour,” Prime Minister Modi stated after receiving the honor. This demonstrates the regard Greeks have for India.

Modi visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens before beginning his activities in Greece. He received a formal guard of honor after paying respects at the Tomb.

India’s Modi is the country’s first prime minister to go to Greece in 40 years. The last official Indian delegation to go to Greece was headed by the then-prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1983.

After attending the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa, Modi traveled to Greene. Mitsotakis and he will speak about how to further develop their connection. He also got to know Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the president of Greece.

Modi had said, “I have the honor to be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Greece in 40 years.”

According to PTI, India and Greece have strong cultural links that have become stronger in recent years because to collaboration in fields including marine transport, defense, commerce, and investments.

Throughout his day-long visit, Modi will also speak with business executives from both nations as well as the Indian community in Greece, according to PTI.

After touching down in Athens, Modi said that the trip is intended to “deepen India-Greece friendship” and that he would interact with the local Indian community.
