HAU and seed companies strike an agreement to provide farmers access to better wheat varieties

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) struck a deal with top seed businesses supporting technology commercialization under the public-private partnership (PPP) on Wednesday in order to provide the enhanced wheat WH 1270 seed variety to the greatest number of farmers.

The Jagdish Hybrid Seeds Company, Super Seeds, Hisar, Yamuna Seeds, Indri, and Gopal Seeds Farm, Mansa have all inked agreements with the institution.

The HAU scientists’ variety is proving to be highly helpful for farmers, according to the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor BR Kamboj. Both the wheat-growing areas of the nation and the farmers in Haryana were greatly benefiting from the variety.

He said that because of the enhanced variety WH 1270’s yield and resilience to illness, demand for it was steadily rising in other states as well. The wheat variety WH 1270, created by the university’s wheat unit under the genetics and plant breeding department, was proving to be a great help for early planting farming in the irrigated regions of the northwest plains of India. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand were among the states where its demand was steadily increasing.

He said that the increased diversity and methods created here had reached the greatest number of farmers and would enhance their financial situation. As per the present arrangement, the corporation would process the seeds of WH-1270, a university-developed variety, and distribute them to farmers in order to enhance their production by providing dependable, high-quality seeds.

We are here to support farmers, and a solid alliance with private partners is always beneficial and win-win for all parties involved, including farmers, according to Prof. Kamboj. He commended each party for signing the agreement.
