Himachal Pradesh Crisis: Amid political unrest, Chief Minister Sukhu refers to rebel MLAs as “black snakes.”

Following the resignation of its senior leader, Vikramaditya Singh, and the six MLAs who supported the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections, the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh is facing a serious political crisis. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu referred to the six MLAs from the dissident party as “black snakes” and disqualified them for voting for the BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections by casting multiple ballots.

“How can people who sell their honor for money serve the people of their constituency?” the chief minister posed this question during a public gathering in Dharampur, in the Kasauli Assembly seat of the Solan district.

After Vikramaditya resigned, Sukhu referred to him as his “younger brother” and started a conversation with the leader. amid Himachal Pradesh’s political unrest. Singh moderated his position on his resignation, stating that he would not pursue the matter further while Congress observers work to resolve it.

In the meanwhile, six Congress MLAs in Himachal Pradesh participated in cross-voting in the just ended Rajya Sabha elections. Veteran Congressman and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh responded to this by saying that the proper action would be done against them when the time is right.

“When the time is right, action against rebellions will be taken,” Singh said reporters in Morena. He went on, “Our Central Election Committee (CEC) will make the decision.”

In the Rajya Sabha elections, six Congress MLAs—Sudhir Sharma, Rajinder Rana, Ravi Thakur, Davinder K. Bhutto, Chaitanya Sharma, and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal—cross-voted. Afterwards, the 68-member state legislature lost these MLAs. The strength and majority mark of the state legislature declined when the MLAs were declared ineligible.
