Himachal Pradesh Temperatures Drop Due to Rain and Snow

As the meteorological service issued a “yellow alert” on Monday for heavy showers and thunderstorms, widespread rains and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh caused a dramatic drop in temperatures.

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that the western disturbance will continue to affect the state through Tuesday and that the weather will be dry starting on Wednesday.

Snow fell in the Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur, Kullu’s Rohtang Pass and Jalori Pass, and Shimla’s Hato Peak and Chanshal. The state capital had cloudy weather as rain pounded Solan and the metropolis.

Shimla, Solan, Mashobra, Narkanda, Palampur, and Poanta Sahib only had 1 to 4 mm of rain whereas Dalhousie saw 6 cm. With a low of 1.1 degrees Celsius, Keylong in the tribal Lahaul and Spiti region endured the coldest night of the season so far, while the higher reaches and mountain passes shivered in sub-zero temperatures.
