Himachal Pradesh: The assembly speaker dismissed six Congress MLAs for casting ballots in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha

Six Congress MLAs disqualified on Thursday by Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania for voting against the party whip in favor of the government on the Finance Bill in the House.

Rajinder Rana, Sudhir Sharma, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Devinder Kumar Bhutoo, Ravi Thakur, and Chetanya Sharma are the disqualified MLAs.

Speaking to reporters here, Pathania, who had postponed making a decision on the MLAs’ disqualification until Wednesday, said that the lawmakers violated the anti-defection statute when they ran for office on the party’s platform and disobeyed the Congress whip.

The Speaker said, “With immediate effect, these six MLAs are disqualified and no longer hold positions in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.”

BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan received the cross-votes of these MLAs on Tuesday in the Rajya Sabha elections. They later refrained from casting votes in the parliament over the budget.

After Pathania suspended fifteen BJP MLAs, the House voted in favor of passing the Finance Bill by voice. The meeting was then adjourned sine die by the Speaker.
