New Delhi. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Monday informed the Supreme Court that the proposed CA examinations for the May cycle from July 29 to August 16 have been canceled in view of the increasing number of covid-19 cases in the country . Justice A.M. Counsel for ICAI, a bench headed by Khanvilkar, informed that the May cycle examination will now be merged into the November 2020 CA examination. The bench was hearing the petition through video conferencing challenging the option of 'not adopting (opt out)' given to candidates by ICAI.
The petition was alleged in this petition by the 'India Wide Parents Association' that this option is biased for candidates seeking to appear for the CA examination in May. The bench disposed of this petition after hearing the statement of ICAI counsel. However, the petitioner's counsel Alakh Alok Shrivastava drew the attention of the court towards certain aspects related to the CA examinations.
The bench asked the counsel for the petitioner to report to the ICAI in this regard. Earlier, the court said on June 29 that amid the Kovid-19 epidemic, ICAI should adopt a flexible approach in conducting examinations and also take into account the concerns of the candidates. The apex court had said that ICAI should also adopt a flexible approach on the option of "not adopting" and change of examination center as the circumstances regarding the epidemic are constantly changing.
