IMD forecast: rain alerts in northeastern areas, heatwave warnings in southern states

On Thursday, April 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) released its most recent meteorological advisory, predicting a variety of severe weather conditions across the nation.

 

It is expected to be a warm day in Delhi, the nation’s capital, and the surrounding districts, with temperatures rising to 36 degrees Celsius, two degrees over the maximum. It is predicted that the lowest temperature will be 19 degrees Celsius, which is one degree more than the seasonal normal. It is also predicted to be cloudy, with strong gusts and a chance of precipitation.
Southern states’ prolonged heatwaves and humidity

Up till April 6, states in the south and southeast, including Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, are expected to endure prolonged heatwaves. Today and tomorrow are expected to be warm nights in Odisha, Maharashtra, and Karnataka; similar conditions are also expected in Chhattisgarh. Karnataka and Goa may continue to suffer hot, muggy weather till April 7, while Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu are predicted to endure it until April 8.

There will be rain throughout the northeastern states.

Over the next six days, a number of northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are expected to get light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms and a lot of rain are predicted for Arunachal Pradesh until April 7, with the risk of very heavy rains on April 6. On April 5, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim are also expected to get significant rains.

Odisha had the hottest day of the season.

On Thursday, April 4, Odisha had its highest temperature of the season, with some regions recording temperatures as high as 42 degrees Celsius. The greatest temperatures were reported in Malkangiri and Boudh, then Angul and Bolangir. The highest temperatures ever recorded in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were 37.4 and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Odisha’s ongoing heat wave

On Friday, highest temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius and lowest temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius are predicted for Bhubaneswar. Odisha may have temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in a number of districts, and heatwave conditions may persist in certain places till April 6. A yellow warning has been issued by the IMD for some areas of the coastal state, alerting residents to the possibility of scorching conditions in certain districts. In certain locations, warm nighttime temperatures are also anticipated.
