In Ambur, TN, copper looting destroys transformers, causing water shortages in 12 communities

At Chinnakommeswaram, near Ambur, on Friday, copper coils used as windings in a 250 kVA transformer and electrical equipment worth a total of around Rs 3 lakh were taken. Under the Cauvery combined drinking water program, the circuit powers motor pumps that provide drinking water to 12 neighboring panchayats. The theft of this equipment caused a significant interruption in the water supply.

According to sources, the vandals broke into an adjacent motor room and took a number of electrical devices. When the security guard arrived on Friday morning, he discovered that the equipment had been taken and the transformer had been damaged the night before.

Junior Engineer K Karthikeyan visited the location after receiving information.

He remarked, “We have filed a complaint at the Ambur Town Police Station,” in an interview with TNIE. After a police inspection, we’re trying to fix the electric pole so that the affected panchayats may start receiving water again right once.”

The drinking water program covers twelve panchayats, including Kailasakhiri, Machampattu, Palur, Periyavarigam, Thuthipat, Devalapuram, Somalapuram, and Machampattu.
