India Records 605 New Cases, 4 Deaths; Active Caseload Drops To 3,643 According To COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 In India: The health ministry said on Wednesday that there were 605 new instances of Covid in the country, while the total number of active cases had dropped to 3,643. The nation recorded four fatalities in the previous 24 hours, two of which were from Kerala and Karnataka, according to official statistics. A total of six fatalities from Assam, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka were recorded on Tuesday.

The number of cases each day had decreased to double digits until December 5, 2023, then instances started to increase as a result of the introduction of a new variation and the cold weather. According to government sources, 841 new cases were documented as of December 31, 2023, or 0.2% of the peak incidence reported in May 2021.

According to government sources cited by news agency PTI, “the currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is neither leading to an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalization and mortality.”

Three waves of COVID-19 have struck India, with the Delta wave occurring in April–June 2021 recording the greatest number of daily new cases and fatalities. On May 7, 2021, the number of new cases and fatalities was 4,14,188, the highest ever.

Since the beginning of the epidemic in January 2020, there have been 4,50,19, 819 coronavirus cases reported in India altogether, resulting in 5,33,406 deaths. Nationwide, the infection has killed over 5.3 lakh individuals and infected over 4.5 crore.

According to the ministry’s website, nearly 4.4 crore individuals have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent. In the nation, 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccination have been given so far.

Up to January 6, 682 cases of JN.1 have been recorded from 12 states in the nation. In addition to Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Telangana, Odisha, and Haryana, JN.1 variant cases were reported from Kerala and Karnataka, according to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG).
