INDIA VOTES 2024: As well-known candidates go to the Valley, electioneering will intensify

Star campaigners for the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will begin traveling to Jammu and Kashmir on April 19, the day of the first round of the Lok Sabha elections, in order to support their respective party candidates.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will visit Udhampur on April 12, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will speak at a rally in Jammu on April 9, and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, who is anticipated to speak at a rally in Kathua on April 10, are among the prominent campaigners.

Party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, among 27 other national officials, will visit J&K to campaign for their party candidates; however, the dates of these celebrity campaigners from the Congress have not yet been announced. On April 19 and 26, respectively, these politicians will run for office in the first and second phases of the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP is gearing up for Modi’s massive rally on April 12, which will serve not only the people of the Udhampur seat—where current MP and Union Minister Jitendra Singh is running—but also the workers of the Jammu LS constituency. Since the BJP has won the Udhampur seat twice since 2014, it is very important to them, and the Congress is doing all in its can to oppose the BJP nominee this time.

Along with prominent Congress campaigners, prominent figures from Kashmir, such as Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, would endorse Congress candidates from Jammu who are members of the INDIA bloc.

Elections in the Kashmiri Anantnag constituency, which includes portions of the Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Jammu division, are scheduled on May 7. However, the BJP has not yet declared a candidate for the position. This time, the BJP is putting a lot of effort into using this seat to gain entry into the Kashmir area. In contrast, NC has made it more difficult for the saffron party by fielding well-known Gujjar leader Mian Altaf.
