Karnal: Manohar Lal Khattar has entered the second phase of the campaign; the opposition has not yet announced their nominees

The BJP candidate for the Karnal seat, former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has begun his second round of campaigning even though opposition parties have not yet announced their nominees. On the first day of the second round, Khattar had talks at the cluster level after holding block-level discussions. He spoke with leaders and workers of the parties in Taraori, Assandh, and Indri.

In these exchanges, Khattar tasked party members with making sure he won, advising them to reach out to every voter and support “Modi’s guarantee.” He said, “Every employee needs to interact with voters and draw attention to the welfare programs of the Modi-led Union government.”

“We will win all 10 seats with a record margin, contributing in crossing the target of 400 seats set by PM Modi,” Khattar said, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to win all nine Lok Sabha seats and one of the Karnal Assembly segment byelections on May 25.

Apart from praising the public welfare initiatives implemented by the BJP administration led by Modi, Khattar also drew attention to the progress made under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “With PM Modi taking over as our country’s leader for a third term, development will pick up even more speed across the board,” he said.

In response to questions about why opposition parties—especially the Congress—have been holding off on announcing their candidacies, he said that announcements had to come quickly. Khattar emphasized the need of healthy competition, saying that “the essence of an electoral contest is lost” in the absence of opponents.
