Kerala: A CPI (M) leader was fatally hacked during a celebration at the Cheriyapuram temple

In Koyilandy, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, a local Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader was fatally cut by his neighbor during a temple festival, according to PTI.

The victim, PV Satyanathan, 60, was assaulted on Thursday night at the Cheriyapuram temple, where the celebration was in progress, by someone named Abhilash, 35, who is accused of attacking him with a sharp object, maybe an axe.

Preliminary findings indicate that personal rivalry was the reason for the murder. According to PTI, a complaint has been filed under many sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302.

According to CPI(M) district secretary P Mohanan, the attacker used an axe to strike the local leader. The commander suffered serious injuries to his neck and back after the assault. After being taken to the hospital immediately, he passed away while receiving care.

Subsequently, Abhilash turned himself in at the police station. The police said that they had taken him into custody.

P Mohanan reports that a bandh was proclaimed in Koyilandy on Friday as a sign of protest after the leader’s death. The secretary of the CPI(M) Koyilandy central local committee was PV Sathyanathan.
