Key UN appointments are won by India, several of them without opposition

With the most votes, India has maintained a number of posts in UN agencies, including the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) for a third straight term.

India received the most votes of all the winning member nations in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with 41 out of the 53 voting members. The Indian candidates secured the INCB seat with 41 votes.

There were twenty-four contenders vying for five seats. Additionally, Indian candidates prevailed in uncontested elections to the Executive Boards of the UN Development Programme and the UN Children’s Fund for the years 2025–2029. For the 2025–2027 period, it also kept its places on the UN Population Fund and the UN Office for Project Services.

Additionally, India was successful in getting its candidates appointed to the World Food Programme’s Executive Board and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women’s Executive Boards for the 2025–2027 period. India’s nomination to the International Narcotics Control Board was re-elected with the greatest number of votes among all elected member nations, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. “Well done,” he said.
