Large amount of illegal alcohol, known as lahan, was found in Tarn Taran villages

Large amounts of lahan and illegal alcohol were found on Saturday in a combined operation by officials of the excise departments of the Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts, which was conducted in the Mand sections of the Beas at Marrar and Kirian villages.

Following the operation’s conclusion in the evening, Inderjit Singh Sehzra, the Excise Officer (EO) for Tarn Taran, said that 1,200 liters of lahan stored in six iron barrels had been found in Marrar village. Lahan was being held by some unnamed individuals, and the Harike police filed a complaint under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act.

According to the excise officer, 1,25,000 liters of lahan and 180 bottles (1,35,000) of illegal alcohol were found in the Kirian village area and immediately burned. From the location, one functional item was also retrieved. The illegal booze was wrapped in 27 plastic bags and the lahan in 32 tarpaulins.

The teams that carried out operations in the districts of Tarn Taran and Ferozepur had more than fifty officers and department workers, according to Jatinder Singh, the Excise Inspector for Tarn Taran.

SSP Ashwani Kapur of Tarn Taran stated that the operations are being carried out to counter the threat posed by illicit alcohol and has cautioned the anti-social elements from engaging in unlawful activities.
