Police stated on Monday that Shivpal Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has been charged with uttering disparaging remarks against Mayawati, the head of the BSP.

Yadav is the national general secretary of the SP. BSP leader Ram Prakash Tyagi filed a complaint against him at the Civil Lines Police Station on Sunday night, according to the police.

They said that Yadav has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 504 (intentional insult) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief).

Aditya Yadav, the son of Shivpal Yadav, is the SP candidate in Budaun, where elections are scheduled for Tuesday.

Tyagi said in his complaint that on May 3, he came across a news item in which Yadav disparaged Mayawati using “indecent and objectionable” words.

Tyagi pleaded with the National Scheduled Caste Commission and the National Women’s Commission to look into the situation.
