Learn how much money political parties received between 2016 and 22 by looking at the third name, which will surprise you

Given that the Election Commission released statistics indicating that the BJP got the most amount of contributions between 2016 and 2022, the Supreme Court’s decision to outlaw electoral bonds is probably going to affect the party the most.

Congress has received the second-highest percentage of contributions, with 60% going to the party. Election bonds were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on the grounds that they infringed upon the basic right to information. These bonds, according to the SC-bench headed by DY Chandrachud, lack transparency, which is essential for a seamless election process.

The Election Commission’s statistics shows that between 2016 and 2022, 28,030 electoral bonds of Rs 16,437.63 crore were auctioned. The primary recipient of these cash was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Rs 10, 122 crore, or over 60% of all contributions.

By comparison, the largest opposition party, the Congress, got Rs 1,547 crore over the same time, but just 10% of all contributions went to them. The Trinamool Congress, which governs West Bengal, received Rs 823 crore, or 8% of all electoral bonds.

When donations given to the BJP via electoral bonds surpassed the entire amount of donations received by all other thirty parties on the list, significant disparities in the distribution of contributions were noted.

The seven national parties have received the following donations:
BJP: 10,122 crore rupees Congress: INR 1,547 million TMC: 823 crore rupees CPI(M): 367 crore rupees NCP: 231 crore rupees BSP: 85 crore rupees CPI: 13 crore rupees

Moreover, the Election Commission’s data indicates that the BJP got almost five times the amount of money via electoral bonds as the Congress did between 2017 and 2022.

Election bonds were initially established in an effort to promote openness in political donations and decrease the amount of black money, but the efficacy of the scheme was called into doubt by today’s Supreme Court verdict. The court emphasized that the program’s stated objectives do not sufficiently support it. It was suggested that other tactics might be more successful in opposing black money and advancing openness.
