Lok Sabha elections in 2024: CPI is seated MP for Nagapattinam may choose not to

The Left parties are in the process of selecting candidates for their four Lok Sabha seats while the DMK-led coalition finalizes their constituencies.

It has been learned that M Selvaraj, the CPI’s current MP for Nagapattinam, will not run due to health issues. He had run for the seat seven times for the party, and he had won four of those contests. According to party sources, Vai Selvaraj, the district secretary of Tiruvarur, is a serious candidate.

To choose a candidate, the party’s district committees in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam met on Thursday. Although the Tiruppur district committee has scheduled a meeting to officially choose whose candidate it recommends for the seat, insiders have verified that the sitting Member of Parliament, K Subbarayan, would run again.

At the party’s state council meeting in Chennai on March 18, after the district committees’ suggestion and the national committee’s approval, the formal announcement of candidates is anticipated.

Regarding CPM, the candidates for the parliamentary seats of Madurai and Dindigul will be decided upon during its state committee meeting on March 15. According to sources, incumbent MP Su Venkatesan of Madurai is expected to be re-elected, while candidates for the Dindigul seat include former district secretary N Pandi and Theekathir editor Madhukkur Ramalingam.
