Manipur: After houses are set on fire, more violence breaks out in the East Imphal District; one person is hurt

On Thursday afternoon, two homes were set on fire in separate places by unknown miscreants, sparking further unrest in the Checkon neighborhood of the Imphal East District. After the incident, which was reported about 1:30 pm, security personnel and local ladies engaged in a combative exchange.

The local women residents resisted letting the security personnel through and argued with them verbally. As the situation worsened, members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) turned to shooting gas rounds in an effort to scatter the mob that was coming at them from three separate angles.The enraged crowd then throws stones in retaliation.

One lady suffered a head injury during the chaos and was taken urgently to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The fire brigade personnel quickly responded to the distress call, arrived on the site, and effectively put out the fires, limiting additional damage.

Later, a team of security personnel was able to take control of the situation.

Locals said that the homes were set on fire by unidentified miscreants to stir up trouble in the already precarious circumstances.

Before the altercation with the security forces, they spoke to the media and said, “We are not allowing anyone to extinguish the fire because the miscreants have ignited the houses to create a conspiracy.”
