MCD LoP requests payment to the victim of a livestock assault

The Delhi BJP’s media chief, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, and Raja Iqbal Singh, the MCD’s leader of the opposition, have denounced the Khanpur ward event, whereby 42-year-old Subhash Kumar Jha lost his life due to an assault by a stray calf. At a news conference on Saturday, the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emphasized how Mayor Shelly Oberoi and the MCD, which is governed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had not addressed the problem of stray animals on Delhi roadways.

When Jha was waiting for his child’s school bus on Thursday morning, a cow attacked him, repeatedly goring him and slamming him with its hooves. The horrific incident was caught on camera.

Singh offered the victim’s family his sympathies and emphasized the growing corruption in the municipality that has occurred since the AAP took office. “The incident underscores the public’s anger towards the deteriorating situation under the current administration,” he said.

He berated the Delhi government for not keeping its word to relocate bulls and stray cows to cow shelters, even though it had promised to do so before the municipal elections. He sought Rs 1 crore in compensation for the victim’s family from the Municipal Corporation and cautioned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Mayor Oberoi that the BJP would protest the MCD if such instances continued.

Durgesh Pathak, the head of the AAP, was accused of hypocrisy by Kapoor, who also cited Mayor Oberoi and Kejriwal’s lack of response to the sad tragedy. “Pathak would hold press conferences on trivial matters while in opposition, but their silence now proves their insensitivity towards this grave issue,” said Kapoor.

He said that BJP council members would abstain from MCD House activities unless the mayor accepted moral responsibility for the event and took steps to discipline the Veterinary Department staff involved.

He asked Oberoi to work with the Delhi Police to bring charges of unintentional killing against those who let their animals to wander freely on public roadways.
