Mehbooba at ‘Tiranga’ Rally: Nehru Did It Among People, LG Needs Security

Mehbooba Mufti, the head of the PDP, responded to Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on Sunday by claiming that the current government required a posse of security guards to hoist the national flag, while Jawahar Lal Nehru did it in 1949 among commoners.

After Sinha took part in a ‘tiranga’ demonstration in the city, the PDP president tweeted to remind her that there were enough people holding the national flag. In an apparent allusion to the PDP president, Sinha stated that those who said that there wouldn’t be anybody left in Jammu and Kashmir to raise the tiranga should have seen the turnout at the rally while taking part in the Independence Day celebration rally.

The previous chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir responded by saying, “Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru standing tall with the tiranga among a sea of jubilant Kashmiris at Lal chowk Srinagar in 1949. In 2023, imagine the LG government flying the same flag while being guarded by a posse of security guards.

Before Article 370 was repealed in 2019, the PDP president warned that no one would be left to hoist the flag if Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was removed.
