Mumbai: Six Men Enter a Cafe Owner’s Home While Posing as Police and Take Away Rs 25 Lakh; Four Are Arrested

An officer claimed on Thursday that six individuals posing as members of the crime department broke into the house of a café owner in Mumbai’s Sion neighborhood and allegedly stole Rs 25 lakh.

Four of them are in the custody of the police. The complainant, who owns a well-known café in the city’s Matunga district, told the police that six people claimed to be from the Mumbai crime branch visited his home near the Sion hospital on Tuesday.

The official cited the complaint as saying that the individuals claimed to be on election duty and that they had knowledge that he had stored money for use in relation to the Lok Sabha elections. On May 20, Mumbai will participate in the general elections’ fifth phase. According to the official, the hotelier informed them that he only had Rs 25 lakh in cash from his food company and that the conversation had no bearing on the elections.

But after stealing the money and threatening to turn him into a criminal, the six accused departed his house. The proprietor of the café then made contact with the Sion police station, which started an inquiry. Police detained four of the suspects throughout the investigation. According to the source, investigators think that members of the police motor transport department and a retired police constable were involved in the crime.
