On Ganesh Chaturthi, “Aarti” was conducted at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai

Before Tuesday’s Ganesh Chaturthi Tuesday’s ‘Aarti’ was held at the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai.

As the ten-day festival got underway on Tuesday, a sizable crowd of worshippers descended at the two-century-old temple devoted to Lord Ganesha.

Since the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday season has begun, people have been busy adorning their houses with flowers and rangolis and bringing Lord Ganesha idols inside. Though this celebration is most prominent in Maharashtra, it is also observed in other regions of the nation.

People were frantically making last-minute purchases for the event in the markets and streets.

While sellers offered flower garlands, fruits, chocolates, and ‘Matoli’ things like betel nuts, local citrus fruits, coconuts, and incense, shop owners made brisk sales of decorative items, lights, lamps, crockery, and clothing.

Arrival to pandals was met with exquisitely carved Ganesh idols created by artists and students.

Every year, lakhs of devotees swarm temples and pandals to have a glimpse of the Lord during the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday.

On Anant Chaturdashi, the festival’s last day, there are spectacular immersion processions.
