On the occasion of her birthday on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Vijaya Raje Scindia, a prominent member of the BJP and the Jana Sangh, saying she had devoted her whole life to public service and welfare.

Scindia, who was born in 1919 and was a member of the former Gwalior royal family, spoke loudly for the Hindutva agenda throughout the majority of her political career, which she started with the Congress before switching to the Jana Sangh.

“On the occasion of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia’s birth, respectable tributes. She devoted her whole life to serving the country and promoting public welfare, Modi said in a post on X in Hindi.

The prime minister added, “Her efforts for the poor and the underprivileged inspire everyone in building a strong India.”

Her two daughters, Vasundhara Raje, a former chief minister of Rajasthan, and Yashodhara Raje, are also members of the BJP. Her grandson Jyotiraditya Scindia is a Union minister in the Modi administration.
