Over a five-year period, the CBI prosecutes 216 civil servants

Recent actions by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against 216 federal workers over a five-year period have sparked debate and raised questions throughout the country. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Personnel, revealed the incidents in a written response he delivered during a Rajya Sabha session.

Maharashtra has the most officials under investigation (39 instances), followed by Jammu and Kashmir (22 cases), Delhi (21 cases), Uttar Pradesh (17 cases), and Karnataka (14 cases), among others. The behavior and integrity of government workers in several states have come under scrutiny as a result of these statistics.

The Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules of 1964 and the All India Services (Conduct) Rules of 1968 were both underlined by Union Minister Singh as being crucial to follow. According to PTI, these regulations establish the code of behavior for workers of the central government and are intended to be strictly adhered to by every employee.

Singh emphasized the work of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie in response to concerns over the training of officer trainees. The school is dedicated to provide the students timely instruction that focuses on national ambitions, student input, and ideals like nationalism, citizen-centricity, and fiscal honesty.

The National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building, also known as Mission Karmayogi, was authorized by the government in September 2020 to handle the problem thoroughly. A highly professional, well-trained, and future-ready civil service with a thorough awareness of India’s national objectives, plans, and developmental goals is the purpose of the program.

It was discovered that the Central Vigilance Commission had recommended action against a sizable number of officials during the previous five years in addition to the cases that the CBI had already filed. 12,756 police were examined at the first stage of the advice, and 887 officers were examined during the second step. The fact that 719 of them were officers was evidence of how severe the accusations were.
