Palaniswami is now the general secretary of the AIADMK

Tuesday saw Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) promoted to General Secretary of the AIADMK, assuming full control of the decades-old organisation minutes after the High Court gave its approval on the leadership dispute involving his challenger O Panneerselvam (OPS).

The 68-year-old interim general secretary was declared unanimously elected to the top position at the party headquarters by the election authorities concerned shortly after the Madras High Court rejected all petitions filed by the ousted OPS and his aides against the resolutions of the July 11, 2022 party general council and the conduct of the general secretary election.

The former chief minister expressed his gratitude to those who helped him advance. His promotion will allow him to lead the AIADMK into brighter times, according to several delighted leaders of the biggest opposition party.

The AIADMK General Council, the party's top decision-making body, ousted Panneerselvam and his associates on July 11, 2022 for suspected anti-party conduct after the leadership conflict between the two leaders.

Although though Pannerselvam and Palaniswami, the party's coordinator and joint coordinator, respectively, had previously headed the organisation, the Salem strongman's followers had supported him for the position of "single leader."
