Panneerselvam's appeal against AIADMK general council decisions is denied by the Madras High Court

On Wednesday, the Madras High Court dismissed the appeals made by ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam and his followers against the party's general council decisions from July 11, which among other things, excluded him and his allies. The court's decision also opens the door for interim leader K. Palaniswami to be promoted to the party's most influential position, general secretary.

The Panneerselvam camp has suggested that it would take the single judge's ruling to a division bench for review.

I S Inbadurai, an attorney for the AIADMK, said that the court dismissed all petitions, including the one challenging the way the party's general secretary election was handled.

"Panneerselvam (and others) filed a complaint against the resolutions from July 11, 2022. It was turned down. So, the general council and its decisions are legitimate "He informed the press.

Referring to the recent election for general secretary, he remembered that the party had previously promised the court it would not disclose the results of the organizational elections. He said that it is now clear Palaniswami would be promoted to the most senior position in the decades-old organization.

At the AIADMK headquarters here, Palaniswami supporters immediately began to celebrate the court decision by lighting fireworks and giving out candy to mark the occasion.

Palaniswami paid homage to the sculptures of late AIADMK leaders J Jayalalithaa and M G Ramachanndran during a visit to the party headquarters.
