Parents must pay a “genuine” fee if their children cause damage to schools

The principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar camp, filed a complaint against eight pupils for causing a disturbance on the school grounds on February 12, and as a result, the parents of these kids were summoned to Kochar Market Chowki.

A kid remarked, “We were summoned to the chowki today, and we would now have to pay a fee to the school since our parents damaged the writing board, classroom equipment, etc.”

According to well-placed sources, on February 12, there was an incident at the school when a group of around twelve pupils reportedly smashed tubelights and damaged desks.

The parents were allegedly summoned by the principle, who demanded that they pay Rs 20,000 in damages apiece.

Three children’ parents paid the required sum to the school, while the parents of the other pupils declined to do so, claiming that the amount requested by the administrators was “unreasonably” high. Yesterday, the principal complained to the chowki incharge because the parents would not budge.

The principal allegedly sought a “unreasonable” fee of Rs 20,000 from each kid engaged in the incident, according to the police, who then phoned the parents who became irate. A parent indicated they would have paid readily if the principal had requested to make up for the real damage to school property. “But it’s unjustified to demand such a huge amount,” she remarked, questioning why the fine was imposed now, two months after the occurrence. A few parents said that the issue was settled and that they would reimburse the real harm.
