Parliament approves Airplane Amendment Bill 2020, provision of penalty of 1 crore for violation of rules
New Delhi. Parliament on Tuesday approved a bill that seeks to improve India's aviation safety rating and grant statutory status to various regulatory institutions, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Rajya Sabha passed the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill 2020 by voice vote after discussion.
The bill also provides for exclusion of aircraft belonging to the armed forces of the country outside the purview of the Airports Act, 1934. The bill also proposes to increase the penalty amount from Rs 10 lakh to Rs one crore for violation of new rules. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha during the budget session.
