People in Dharmapuri lament the threat posed by stray dogs and want an animal birth control camp in 2023

The municipality, according to Dharmapuri residents, has not held an Animal Birth Control (ABC) camp this year, which has increased the threat posed by stray dogs. Every year, the Dharmapuri Municipality hosts an Animal Birth Control (ABC) camp where stray dogs are often caught and sent to be sterilized. Nevertheless, there were no similar camps held this year. People are distressed as a result of the rise in stray dogs, particularly those who go for morning walks. Thus, the municipality is in charge of managing the number of stray dogs.

N Anandan, a resident of Bharathipuram, told TNIE that there are between thirty and forty dogs on a 66-foot stretch of road in his hometown. These dogs often pursue humans. Many individuals carry sticks in the morning to protect themselves against potential dog attacks. They become quite bothersome at night and cause problems for cars. In the last eight months, the number of dogs in the neighborhood has almost doubled; if this trend continues, it might be dangerous for human health.

“Normally in the early hours, we leave our trash outside for the municipality’s sanitation workers to pick up every day,” said S. Umashankar, another resident. However, these stray dogs gather all the debris, leaving the whole neighborhood filthy. Diapers and sanitary pads are carried to the road, which is really upsetting. The dogs will pursue us if we attempt to shoo them away. Thus, it is rather upsetting.
The Dharmapuri Municipality’s Sanitary Inspector, Ramanacharan, told TNIE that “we are currently identifying NGO’s to take up the setlization works.” ABCs will be done soon.
