PM Modi goes on an elephant safari in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam: This morning, March 9, the Prime Minister visited Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam. He also went on an elephant safari and a jeep ride. On his first visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Prime Minister Modi first went on an elephant safari in the Mihimukh section of the park’s Central Kohora Range, and then he went on a car safari inside the same range.

Senior forest officers and Sonali Ghosh, the park director, were with him. On Friday, March 8, the prime minister landed in Kaziranga in the evening, beginning a two-day visit to the state.

“I would urge you all to visit Kaziranga National Park and experience the unparalleled beauty of its landscapes and the warmth of the Assamese people,” said PM Modi in a post on X. Every stay here deepens your connection to Assam’s heart and enlivens your spirit.”

Assam launches projects

In the afternoon, he will also dedicate the ‘Statue of Valor’ in honor of the renowned Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat. The prime minister will next go to Meleng Meteli Pothar, which is located in the Jorhat district, to officially launch and lay the foundation stones for state and federal projects valued at over Rs 18,000 crore.

At the same location, PM is expected to speak at a public gathering as well.

The Prime Minister will launch, dedicated to the country, and lay the cornerstone of many development initiatives bolstering the housing, train, oil and gas, and health sectors at the public program in Jorhat.

The Prime Minister will officially open the Medical College & Hospital in Sivasagar and the Hemato-Lymphoid Center in Guwahati as part of the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) program. Along with these major oil and gas sector projects, he will also lay the cornerstone for the expansion of the Digboi Refinery’s capacity from 0.65 to 1 MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum); the expansion of the Guwahati Refinery’s capacity from 1.0 to 1.2 MMTPA, which includes the installation of a Catalytic Reforming Unit (CRU); and the improvement of facilities at the Betkutchi (Guwahati) Terminal, which is owned by Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate significant national projects, such as the 718-kilometer Barauni-Guwahati Pipeline (a component of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project), which was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3,992 crore, and the new medical college and hospital in Tinsukia. Additionally, the Prime Minister will officially open around 5.5 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), which was built at an estimated cost of Rs. 8,450 crore;

Important railway projects in Assam, including the Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon portion (part of the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Via Goalpara Doubling Project) and the New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog section (part of the New Bongaigaon-Agthori Doubling Project), costing more than Rs 1300 crore, will also be dedicated by the prime minister to the country.
