PM Modi Opens New Terminal at Trichy Airport

Chennai’s Tiruchirappalli: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and lay the foundation stone for a number of development projects worth over ₹ 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli on Tuesday as part of his campaign for “Sabka Vikas” south of the Vindhyas.

Following a convocation ceremony at Bharathidasan University, MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, honoured Prime Minister Modi at a public event in the city.

Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia praised PM Modi’s leadership during his speech at the occasion, stating that under his direction, the federal government has made sure that airports serve as development hubs in addition to being means of transportation.

“Airports are becoming to become national hubs for employment as well. During the course of this government’s nine and a half years, one significant development is that PM Modi has democratized civil aviation for all of the nation’s citizens. Everybody wearing “Hawai Chappal” (slippers) is required to take flights in “Hawai jahaaj” (plane). “This has been the Prime Minister’s vision for the citizens of our nation,” Mr. Scindia said.

PM Modi then went on to open the airport’s new terminal structure in Trichy.

The cost of developing the new terminal building exceeded ₹ 1100 crore. According to a previous official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two-level new international terminal can accommodate over 44 lakh people yearly, with a capacity of around 3,500 during peak hours.

“The latest amenities and features are available for the convenience of passengers at the new terminal,” the PMO said in a statement on Monday.

In Tamil Nadu, Tiruchirappalli International Airport is the second-biggest airport in terms of foreign passenger flow, after Chennai.

According to the statement, there are 60 check-in desks, 5 luggage carousels, 60 arrival immigration counters, and 44 departure emigration stations in the new terminal building.

Prime Minister Modi also committed many railway projects valued at crores to the country. Three rail line electrification projects are among them, along with the doubling of the 160-kilometer rail line segment from Madurai to Tuticorin and the 41.4-kilometer Salem-Magnesite Junction-Omalur-Mettur Dam portion.

Sengottai-Tenkasi Junction; Tiruchchirappalli-Manamadurai-Virudhunagar; Virudhunagar-Tenkasi Junction; Tirunelveli-Tirunelveli-Truchendur. In addition, he dedicates five road projects to the country: a 39-km four-lane road for the NH-81 section Trichy-Kallagam; a 60-km four-lane road for the NH-81 section Kallagam-Meensurutti; a 29-km four-lane road for the NH-785 section Chettikulam-Natham; an 80-km two-lane road with a paved shoulder for the NH-536 section Karaikudi-Ramanathapuram; and a 44-km four-lane section of NH-179A Salem-Tirupathur-Vaniyambadi Road.

According to a government release, the road projects will make it easier and safer for locals to travel around the area and will enhance the connectivity of commercial and industrial hubs like Erwadi, Madurai, Srirangam, Chidambaram, Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi, Uthirakosamangai, Devipattinam, and Trichy.

A significant road construction project also had a foundation stone set by Prime Minister Modi.
NH 332A will be expanded to include a four-lane, 31-kilometer stretch of road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam.

The route would improve access to Mamallapuram, a World Heritage Site, and the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant. It will also link ports on Tamil Nadu’s East Coast.

He also officially opened Kamarajar Port’s General Cargo Berth-II, Capital Dredging Phase-V, and Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II. A step toward bolstering commerce inside the nation will be the opening of General Cargo Berth II, which will support job creation and economic expansion.

Additionally, the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) laid the foundation stone for two projects: the construction of a 323-kilometer natural gas pipeline by GAIL for the Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Gas Pipeline II (KKBMPL II) from Krishnagiri to Coimbatore; and the installation of POL pipelines in the Common Corridor for the proposed grass root terminal at Vallur, Chennai.

These petroleum and natural gas projects will be a step in meeting the region’s industrial, residential, and commercial energy needs. These will also help create jobs in the area and lead to the creation of employment.

Additionally, he established the 500-bed “AMETHYST” Boys’ Hostel at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Tiruchirappalli.

In addition to Tamil Nadu, on January 2 and 3, Prime Minister Modi will spend two days in Kerala and Lakshadweep.
