Punjab assembly passed resolution demanding withdrawal of central agricultural laws, appeal for cancellation of cases lodged against farmers
The Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution demanding withdrawal of the Central Agricultural Laws. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh (CM Amarinder Singh) targeted BJP leaders for making "derogatory" statements about farmers opposing these laws. He appealed to the Central Government to withdraw the cases and notices filed against the farmers so that a positive atmosphere can be created for a amicable solution to the issue.
Singh, while presenting the proposal, said that these laws cannot be allowed to be enforced by bypassing the "interests" of the farmers, as these laws are not only "against the principles of cooperative federalism but their objectives are also meaningless". All the members present in the House passed this resolution unanimously. When the resolution was passed in the House, AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP members were not present.
Committee to be constituted to investigate Navdeep Kaur case
At the same time, the Punjab Assembly will set up a committee to investigate the incident of "beatings" by Haryana Police along with alleged torture of Sikh youths and labor rights activist Navdeep Kaur in Tihar Jail in Delhi. During the budget session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday, after several MLAs raised these issues, Speaker Rana KP Singh announced the formation of the committee.
'The committee will gather all the facts'
The Speaker said that we will constitute a committee which will gather all the facts and investigate the matter in depth and submit a report to the Assembly. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also supported the decision. He said, "I agree with this. It is necessary to set up a committee of the House to look into it. ''
