PWD requests funding from the Fire Department so that it may carry out a survey

A project has been initiated to rebuild one of the major fire stations’ hazardous and decrepit structures. Although the PWD is supposed to do the work, the latter has requested the availability of money so that the work may begin. In the survey carried out the previous year, the buildings of these stations were deemed condemned.

In a letter to the head office, the Additional Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO) office requested that Rs 53,100 be sent to the PWD in order to carry out a topographical study of the structures that were deemed dangerous in May 2023.

The PWD reported that while the structures’ load-bearing walls had developed vertical fissures, the joints had deteriorated and sometimes gone missing. It was said that the RCC roof slabs, columns, and beams were lying broken, with evident corrosion on the steel. The floors of the structures were in bad shape, and there was seepage in the walls of the rooms. The buildings, which make up 90% of the department’s existing infrastructure, are situated at NIT, Sector 15 A, and Ballabgarh.

The PWD was requested to provide a project estimate by the fire authorities here, however, on October 10 of last year, the latter wanted a deposition of Rs 53,100 for the topographical survey. However, reports claim that since the requested funds had not yet been transferred to the PWD office here, the construction had not yet started. Although the first reminder for the depositing of cash was allegedly sent in September of last year, the sixth letter of that kind was allegedly issued on January 24 of this year.

Concurrently, the state administration has authorized the procurement of 13 hydraulic platform fire tenders, which will be used to respond to fires in tall structures around the region. For a number of years, the city, which is home to many high-rise residential and business structures, has been in need of such a machine.

Putting out fires in structures taller than 35 meters has proven to be challenging for the agency. There has reportedly been a request for hydraulic platforms with a height range of 45 to 70 meters. According to the Additional Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO) Satyawan Samriwal, construction on the structures that have been declared condemned is anticipated to begin shortly.
