Rajasthan: Medical professionals go on strike in protest of the planned Right to Health Bill

Due to physicians' strike on Sunday in opposition to the state government's planned Right to Health Bill, medical services in private hospitals and nursing homes in Rajasthan were impacted.

Members of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Home Society and the United Private Clinics and Hospitals of Rajasthan suspended operations starting on Saturday night in response to a strike call issued by the Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti.

The proposed legislation would provide citizens the ability to get free medical treatment from hospitals, clinics, and labs, even private ones.

According to Dr. Vijay Kapoor, secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Home Society, this is an indefinite statewide "bandh" that will continue until the government drops the bill.

On Sunday, he added, the physicians had a meeting to discuss the matter.

3,000 physicians from every district would protest the law on Monday, according to Kapoor, who also noted that the action has the backing of several other organisations.
