Rekha Patra, the face of Sandeshkhali, visits the Calcutta High Court to request protection from state police action

Kolkata, 15 May Rekha Patra, the leader of the women’s movement in Sandeshkhali and BJP candidate for the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, sought the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday to request protection against “coercive action” by state police.

Patra has petitioned the court to order the state police to notify it (the court) of the quantity and specifics of the charges that have been brought against her. The petition has been approved, and a hearing is scheduled for this Thursday.

The appeal was made after the West Bengal Police watched and listened to a video that went viral, in which local Sandeshkhali BJP leader Gangadhar Kayal was heard saying that the women’s march there was planned and directed by the BJP.

West Bengal Police filed formal complaints (FIRs) against Patra and Kayal on the basis of the information found in the sting operation film.

Patra has requested information on the precise number and specifics of the FIRs in her appeal since she believes that more police reports may have been filed against her.

Kayal filed a complaint with the Calcutta High Court after the police filed an FIR against him. On Tuesday, Justice Jay Sengupta’s one-judge bench prohibited the West Bengal Police from opening an investigation or using coercive measures against Kayal until further instructions.

In addition, Kayal has made claims that artificial intelligence (AI) was used to modulate his voice in the sting operation video. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already looking into allegations of illegal land grabbing, extortion, and sexual harassment at Sandeshkhali.
