Republic Day 2024: Delhi will have 11 days of restricted airspace this month

Republic Day 2024: According to an official, airspace restrictions will be in effect in the nation’s capital for 11 days this month due to Republic Day preparations and festivities. The official said that the limitations will be in effect from January 19 to January 29. But the movement of scheduled aircraft operated by scheduled airline carriers won’t be impacted by the limits.

Delhi’s airspace restrictions
Scheduled carriers’ non-scheduled flights and chartered aircraft are prohibited from landing or taking off between 10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on January 19–25.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) stating that these limitations would be in effect from January 26 to 29 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. A NOTAM (message to Airmen) is often a message that contains vital information for those working on flight operations.

Helicopters used by the IAF, BSF, and Army to be excluded
There will be no aircraft taking off or landing on Republic Day, January 26, from 0600 to 2100 hours.

According to the NOTAM, on January 29, the day of the Beating the Retreat ritual, no aircraft landing or takeoff would be allowed at the Delhi airport between 0600 and 2100 hours.

NOTAM, however, won’t affect Army, BSF, or IAF aircraft helicopter activities. Furthermore, state-owned planes or helicopters traveling with a state’s governor or chief minister will be allowed.

With over 1,300 flights handled daily, the nation’s major airport is the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the nation’s capital.

Republic Day, 75th anniversary
On January 26, 2024, India will commemorate its 75th Republic Day, marking the historic day when the nation finished transforming into an independent republic after the ratification of the Constitution.

This year’s main guest will be French President Emmanuel Macron. This will be the sixth time that a head of state from France will be the main attraction at Republic Day festivities.

This year’s Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path will include a first: all-women marching contingents from the Border Security Force (BSF) and brass band contingents. On January 26, as India celebrates its 75th Republic Day with French President Emmanuel Macron as the Chief Guest, 144 women BSF constables would march along Kartavya Path led by an Assistant Commandant rank woman officer and two junior officers.
