Seven Kanpur schools got ‘hoax’ bomb threat emails after those from Delhi and Jaipur

According to authorities on Wednesday, up to seven schools—including two government-run ones—received bomb threats via mail that turned out to be a “hoax” after a police inquiry.

Additional Commissioner of authorities (Law and Order), Harish Chandra, said that “most schools reported the threat to police on Tuesday after it came to their knowledge, as the schools were closed on Sunday and Monday.”

Within the previous 72 hours, bomb threats have been sent via email to two government schools and five private institutions, he said.

The schools that received the bomb threat are the Chintal’s school in Singhpur Kachar, Virendra Swaroop School in Civil Lines Kendriya Vidyalaya Cantt, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Armapore estate, KDMA school in Gujaini, Gulmohar Vihar Public School in Hanumant Vihar, and Sanatan Dharm Education Centre in Kaushalpuri.

The officer said that it was discovered that the threats were a fake after a preliminary examination.

“The Cyber Crime officials have been alerted and the instructions were issued to launch the investigation into the matter after registering the FIR,” according to the ACP.

“We are also trying to ascertain patterns between the hoax bomb threats received by schools in Lucknow, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Delhi-NCR,” he said.

Earlier last month, authorities said that similar “hoax” threats were received at schools in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Lucknow.
