Spend extra on construction supplies in Tamil Nadu starting next month

Beginning on February 1, Coimbatore, Erode, and Karur residents who want to construct a home will have to pay a higher price for blue metal, M-sand, and P-sand (fine variety), according to a decision made by the Crusher and Quarry Welfare Association (CQWA).

The association’s president, K Chandra Prakash, claimed that a number of reasons, including rising labor and royalty costs, had caused the price to climb by Rs 500 per unit. The royalty and electricity tariff have been quadrupled by the state government. Furthermore, the GST system is causing us problems. The decision was also influenced, he claimed, by a tax on truckers and an increase in the cost of machinery replacement parts.

According to Chandra Prakash, the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, and Karur are implementing price hikes since other districts have already done so prior to Pongal.

“The costs here are much lower than those in Chennai. Due to the 100-kilometer transportation required to deliver these supplies, there is a 1,000 rupee price increase in Chennai. Nonetheless, the resources we get come from a 40–45 km radius around the region.

“At the moment, M sand and P sand are sold at Rs 4,300 and Rs 5,300 per unit, respectively,” said a city sub-dealer. Speaking to TNIE, vice president of CREDAI D Abhishek’s district chapter, Abhishek said that the cost of residential flats has increased due to a raise in registration fees by the state government, and an additional 10% to 15% increase in building materials. He said that the government should act to lower the expense.
