Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe and PM Modi meet in Delhi

Friday saw delegation-level conversations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe that covered a broad range of topics regarding all important facets of the relationship. PM Modi invited Wickremesinghe to Hyderabad House for discussions that provided a chance to assess and give the long-standing relations between the two neighbors new life.

On Thursday, Wickremesinghe began a two-day trip to India that is anticipated to give the two countries’ relations fresh life.

During the previous year’s economic crisis, India sent Sri Lanka financial aid of over USD 4 billion, including lines of credit for buying food and petrol. Additionally, New Delhi has provided the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with assurances to assist the government in obtaining a USD 2.9 billion rescue package.

S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for Sri Lanka, met on the president on the first day of his tour. They spoke about a range of bilateral problems involving the two nations.

Additionally, he listed areas of collaboration as security concerns, international cooperation on development, and new initiatives, noting that India has assisted Sri Lanka in addressing its economic woes.
