SUV owner fined for employing number plate flippers

Assistant Commissioner of Police (North), Varinder Singh Khosa, said here today that Ranjit Avenue police have charged a Mahindra Thar owner for putting an automatic flipper on the number plate on the car, a clear violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The owner, Jaspal Singh, was issued a Rs 6,000 punishment for the infraction and was required to appear in court before paying the fee.

According to ACP Khosa, a video showing a driver of a Thar with the registration number PB-02-EQ-1301 flipping the number plate while a blank screen with the words “All eyes on me” scrawled on it became popular on social media lately. Senior authorities were made aware of the situation by the police social media unit.

He said that Jaspal Singh, a resident of the Golden Avenue neighborhood, was the vehicle’s registered owner. He was given a challan and the car was promptly tracked down. He advised individuals not to indulge in car modifications that go outside the Motor Vehicles Act’s requirements. The ACP warned car owners to refrain from such behavior, stating that it would be dealt with harshly.
