Talk to farmers, Congress should tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was asked by the Congress on Tuesday to speak with the protesting farmers face-to-face and to give them justice. Randeep Singh Surjewala, the general secretary of the Congress, questioned why the farmers, who had a track record of upholding peace, were not permitted to enter Delhi at a news conference held here.

With reference to the extensive blockade of Delhi, Surjewala enquired as to whether the federal government saw the farmer protest as an assault by an enemy nation. If not, Surjewala said, ditches that were both deep and broad had been created to obstruct the farmers’ movement and clog the roadways with rocks and other obstructions.
