Tamil Nadu: According to minister EV Velu, “99% of farmers in Cheyyar support SIPCOT expansion

According to EV Velu, the minister of highways, 99% of farmers in the Cheyyar area are in favor of SIPCOT’s development, as he said in the legislature on Wednesday. Principal opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami spoke on behalf of the AIADMK in response to a resolution to thank the governor. He raised concerns over the imprisonment of seven farmers who were demonstrating against the Cheyyar SIPCOT expansion due to the Goondas Act. He took a harsh stance against the state government’s policies.

Minister Velu said, “Up to 99% of farmers who own land in their region have welcomed the proposal due to a lack of job opportunities for educated youth.” Palaniswami had asked the government to provide farmers who lost crops because there was not enough Cauvery water for irrigation Rs 35,000 per acre as compensation during his address.
