Tamil Nadu man gets 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenager

A 29-year-old teenager who was detained in connection with a POCSO Act case was given 20 years in jail by a special court in Coimbatore on Friday.
On March 20, 2022, R Senthil was found guilty of sexually abducting a 17-year-old girl and assaulting her under the false pretense of marrying her.

On June 16, 2022, the girl’s parents filed a complaint at the All-Women Police Station-East in Coimbatore city over her missing. After locating the girl, the police detained Senthil. Sections of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, POCSO Act, and Indian Penal Code were used against him. Her parents were given custody of the girl.

Judge G Kulasekaran delivered the verdict on Friday, sentencing Senthil to 20 years in jail and fined him Rs 15,000. The government is also required by the court to provide compensation of Rs 4 lakh.

Senthil lived on Coimbatore North’s Arumuga Goundar Street. He has two kids and is married.
