Tamil Nadu: Police using gmail, geo-mapping to stay tabs on home-quarantined in Tirupathur

As novel coronavirus cases still rise in Tamil Nadu , the state police have now switched to innovative ways to make sure that the general public is safe and secure.

In Tirupathur district, where there are quite 1,000 people are in quarantine, police are taking the assistance of technology to watch and make sure that such individuals don’t leave their homes. We are using open source web tools to make sure there's no violation and if there's a violation, the required corrective step are often taken immediately, said Tirupathur SP P Vijayakumar.

The police have a fanatical email address and every one those in quarantine are connected with the house quarantine tool and geo location of the people is plotted. The GPS coordinates are recorded to determine the important time location of those people in quarantine.

The real time location of the person are often seen on the map and if there's any change within the GPS location, they're immediately contacted over the phone.

If the quarantined person leaves the premises, then a police personal is shipped immediately and therefore the person is taken into custody and dropped back home. An FIR is additionally filed against those that breach the advisories.
Police say repeated offenders could be shifted to facility quarantine where they're going to be kept for the required quarantine period.

This surveillance doesn't use a person’s mobile number and this is often through with google map using gmail. This also reduces the need of the police manpower to be physically present there. In real time monitoring hundred individuals are often monitored by one person by simply monitoring the computers, added Dr Vijayakumar.
