Teen kills himself in Amritsar when girlfriend refuses to get married

Gurpreet Singh, a young man who had lately returned from Dubai, killed himself by hanging from the ceiling of a hotel room here. After his supposed girlfriend turned him down for marriage, he became irate. After the victim’s sister filed a complaint against the suspect on Saturday, the police opened a case in this respect.

After his sister filed a police complaint, the accused, named as Diksha of Jagdambay Colony, who is purportedly a lawyer, was arrested by the Civil Lines police on a charge of aiding and abetting suicide.

She wasn’t yet in custody. His cell phone was taken by the police and submitted for analysis, according to investigating officer ASI Kuldeep Singh. Raids to apprehend the culprit were underway, he added.

The victim’s sister, Dalbir Kaur, who lives in the Baba Bakala subdivision in Mattewal, informed the police that Gurpreet had been living in Dubai for the last seven years. There, he was employed as a CCTV operator. She said that he met Diksha on social media around three years ago, and they both desired marriage. He had a cell phone conversation with the accused.

The accused reportedly declined to marry him, even though he had just come home. She said the accused also conned his brother out of thousands of rupees.

Gurpreet moved out on her own and felt really sad after this. She said he left the residence on April 6 and never came back. Following an autopsy, the family received the corpse. They stated that there was an ongoing investigation.
