Telangana: RDO receives a contempt notice for excavating a road while on leave

On Friday, the Telangana High Court’s Justice B Vijaysen Reddy served notices to the Medchal-Malkajgiri district’s RDO and tahsildar for allegedly willfully disobeying court orders by excavating a road that leads to the petitioner’s land, Kandadi Padmaja.

In response to Padmaja’s writ suit, the court had earlier ordered the tax officials to keep things as they were. On Friday, however, Padmaja’s senior attorney, L Ravichander, told the court that people posing as representatives of the tahsildar’s office had illegally destroyed the road—supposedly under police cover. Padmaja then filed a contempt petition against the collector, an extra collector, an RDO, and a tahsildar, among other officers.

Despite the court’s directives, Ravichander said, the demolition was scheduled to go on using heavy equipment until it was finished. He further claimed that the police had unlawfully detained Padmaja’s boys. Judge Vijaysen Reddy postponed the case to April 1 out of concern about the disregard for court directions.
