The BJP-led Center is accused by the J-K Congress of purposefully postponing panchayat elections

The Congress said on Tuesday that the BJP-led government at the federal level is purposefully postponing the Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir because it is afraid of losing the polls.

On Tuesday, the panchayat term came to a close. In Jammu and Kashmir, panchayat elections were last conducted in 2018.

The Congress also claimed that the Union Territory’s Panchayati Raj system had collapsed as a result of the polls’ postponement.

“The Panchayati Raj system in J&K disintegrated today as a result of panchayat terms expiring. Ravinder Sharma, the top spokesman for the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), said that the BJP purposefully postponed the panchayat polls out of fear of losing.

He also took aim at the BJP-led administration in Washington, stating that more information is needed to determine when Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly elections would take place.

The Congress said that the BJP has shown its disrespect for the rights and aspirations of the people while panchayat elections are still scheduled.
